Lee Leipsner Exits Columbia Records

• After nearly 25 years with Sony Music, Lee Leipsner has exited as Executive Vice President of Promotion at Columbia Records. The news initially appeared in Variety and was independently confirmed in a conversation with Leipsner.

Leipsner began his promotion career at Mercury Records in 1989 as the Washington, DC-based regional promotional exec for the label’s Mid-Atlantic region. In 1993 he segued to Columbia Records in a similar DC-based post. A year later, with his career on the rise, Leipsner relocated to Columbia’s New York office to do National Top 40 promotion, eventually moving up to Director and then SVP of Pop/Adult Top 40 Promotion. After a yearlong stint working with Duran Duran, Leipsner returned to the Sony Music family in April of 2004, this time as VP of Pop/Adult Top 40 Promotion at Epic Records. Leipsner rejoined Columbia Records as SVP of Pop Promotion in October 2006 and was upped to his most recent position in June 2013.

Looking back on his quarter-century of service to Sony Music, Leipsner told RAMP, “I want to thank the amazing Columbia promotion team, and of course, Rob Stringer, Ron Perry and Jen Mallory for all of their support.”

Leipsner has not formalized his future plans as of yet, but we expect him to be on the move very soon. In the meantime, he can be reached at 917-533-6100, lleipsner@icloud.com or lleipsner@gmail.com.
