• iHeartRadio is also celebrating the first major solar eclipse since 1979 and is making it easy for listeners to get into the eclipse spirit with exclusive iHeartRadio stations and playlists — including the pop-up station iHeartRadio’s Eclipse Party Radio — and even a special podcast episode hosted by famed astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson!
iHeartMedia radio stations will also be celebrating in unique ways around the country to commemorate the day with their local listeners.
• Triple A mainstay WRNR/Annapolis, MD, owned by Steve Kingston‘s Empire Broadcasting is celebrating today’s highly anticipated solar eclipse with a special viewing party aboard a private chartered yacht. Winners will eagerly board the “Lady Sarah” at 2pm and witness the moon pass between the sun and Earth from a unique vantage point — the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. As a special added-value eclipse bonus, voyagers will also be treated to an exclusive acoustic showcase by Atlantic Records’ own Vance Joy.
“The moon and the sun literally aligned for us to be able to put this together – with Vance Joy coming to town on August 21,” said WRNR PD Bob Waugh. “We knew we had to take these two opportunities and provide our listeners with an unforgettable experience.”
• It was awesome to hear from Julie Garcia, former personal assistant to the late, legendary Kidd Kraddick, who is now a Marketing Partnership Associate with American Mensa, the high I.Q. organization. As you might expect, the Mensa crew is seriously geeking out over today’s Great American Eclipse®. “Because we won’t see another eclipse like it for another seven years, American Mensa is also offering its online Mensa Practice Test (regularly $18) for just $7 today until midnight, at americanmensa.org/mht,” Garcia tells RAMP.
She continued, “Our practice test is a great way to exercise your brain and is designed to give a preview of what it’s like to take the official Mensa Admissions Test. And since I am a #MusicGeek, I also created the American Mensa Eclipse Playlist — Enjoy!
