Can You Fill Bernie’s Big Shoes?

• We want to send our very best wishes to the legendary Bernie Lucas, Creative Director of iHeartCountry duo WMZQ/Washington DC and WPOC Baltimore, who just celebrated his 30th anniversary at WMZQ and announced his impending retirement, effective June 30.

That’s Lucas (right), clutching his commemorative 30th anniversary bottle of wine alongside one of his biggest fans — Jeff Kapugi, Region SVPP for iHeartMedia’s DC Region and PD of WMZQ & WPOC.

For three decades Bernie has been the creative force behind WMZQ’s sound — and more recently, WPOC’s sound — along with some national work he’s done for the iHeartCountry network of stations. Bernie also was the host of the DC stations’ weekly public affairs show and the main producer for iHeart DC’s feature CEOs You Should Know.
