Changes At Waterloo Media Austin
• Austin-based Waterloo Media has announced programming staff changes, starting with the news that Jay Michaels has departed as PD of Triple A Austin City Limits Radio (KGSR-HD2) to pursue other interests. Lynn Barstow, 18-year PD of Alternative sister KROX (101X) has been appointed to oversee the ACLR brand, while current ACLR Music Coordinator Bailey Heath adds APD duties.
Barstow (left) remarked, “As a brand, Austin City Limits has been iconic through nearly my entire life; the TV show was a formative force in shaping my music tastes; Austin City Limits Festival and the ACL Live venue have lived up to the television show’s greatness, and I’m here to help ensure that the radio station and its events continue to do so, too. Renowned music journalist Andy Langer continues to lead the way in PM drive on an airstaff that — well — sounds like Austin.”
Heath (right), who has been contributing in the programming department at Austin City Limits Radio since 2019, said, “I’m thrilled to get to expand my role here, and learn and grow in my favorite radio format.”
Michaels (left), who recently relinquished command of Rhythmic Hot AC KGSR (Lucy 93.3) when it flipped to Latino 93.3, commented, “We parted ways with nothing but respect and to pursue other opportunities in the music industry and digital media. I’m grateful for my three years working at Waterloo Media and want to thank Bob Sinclair, Bruce Walden and the entire top-notch staff. Incredible friends were made as well as 20+ years working with Bob.”
Michaels returned to Austin in Sept. 2020 after a yearlong stint with NRG Media Omaha as PD of Hot AC KQKQ (Sweet 98.5), Rhythmic KOPW (Power 106.9) and Adult Hits KOOO (101.9 The Keg). During his previous Austin stint, Michaels programmed Sinclair-owned Rhythmic KDHT (Hot 93.3). His radio resume also includes stints in Dallas at KVIL, KJKK, KDMX & KDGE. Michaels has also worked at KHFI/Austin and KRBE/Houston and did artist management with Larry Rudolph in Los Angeles. Earlier in his career Michaels was OM of Sinclair’s WROX & WUSH/Norfolk, VA.
