Saga Milwaukee Ups Borna, Mindy, Mandy

• Saga Communications Milwaukee keeps it firmly in the realm of the familiar and taps company vet Borna Velic (left) as the new PD of Classic Rock WKLH (Milwaukee’s Hometown Rock). He will retain his current gig as PD and afternoon co-host for Mainstream Rock WHQG (102.9 The Hog).

And there’s more: WHQG midday personality Mindy Novotny (center) has been promoted to Music Director/Programming Assistant for The Hog, while the multi-tasking Mandy Scott (right), MD/midday personality of Rhythmic WNRG (Energy 106.9) and afternoon co-host on WHQG is promoted to WKLH Programming Assistant, while retaining her current responsibilities.

Velic succeeds former WKLH PD Bob Bellini, who earlier this year was promoted to VP/GM of Saga’s Milwaukee Radio Group following the retirement of President/GM Annmarie Topel. Bellini remarked, “First, I want to thank the many candidates who interviewed with us from near and far. We left no stone unturned in our search, and through these many weeks, Borna interviewed by actually doing the job. Saga Communications is committed to hiring the best talent, from within or without, and I’m elated that three exceptional Milwaukee Radio Group staff will grow and contribute to our success.”

Velic joined the Hog in November 2013 and was upped from MD/afternoons to the PD chair two years ago after Joe Calgaro was named PD of the now former WAAF/Boston. Velic previously spent 11 years in various roles with Woodward Communications’ WAPL and WZOR (Razor 94.7)/Appleton-Oshkosh. Prior to that, he worked at WPGU/Champaign, IL.

Velic commented, “I’m incredibly excited and humbled to join the veteran team at WKLH. Thank you to [Saga Pres./CEO] Ed Christian, [SVP of Operations] Chris Forgy, and [Group PD] Scott Chase for their confidence in me to lead such an iconic brand. Special thanks to Bob Bellini for his ongoing mentorship to further the success he’s established at WKLH.” All of the promotions are effective immediately.
