Storm Arrives In Norfolk

• We are pleased to announce the awesomely named Storm Avery has joined Max Media of Hampton Roads, VA as Marketing Director for the company’s Norfolk/Virginia Beach stations — AC WVBW (92.9 The Wave), Top 40 WVHT (Hot 100.5), Country WGH-FM (Eagle 97), Oldies WGH-1310 AM and WVSP (ESPN Radio 94.1). That’s the word from Hampton Roads VP of Programming Rusty James.

Ms. Avery started her radio career at KGGF & KUSN in her hometown of Coffeyville, KS, but until this big east coast move, most of her career has been spent in landlocked Indiana, largely going back and forth between South Central and Midwest Communications. She initially moved to Evansville, IN in 2001 to work for Clear Channel Country WYNG 105, and did promotions at Top 40 sister WDKS before she was later upped to PD. In 2006 Avery crossed the street to work at South Central Top 40 rival WSTO (Hot 96).

In 2010, Midwest came calling again and Avery moved to Terre Haute to do mornings on Top 40 WMGI; she later added Brand Manager stripes for News-Talk WIBQ, Classic Country WPRS and Alternative WXXR. And in 2014, she returned to Evansville — and South Central — once again as PD/afternoons for Country WLFW. Interestingly, in September 2014, shortly after she started there, Midwest Communications took over the Evansville cluster and Avery transitioned into the Marketing Director role for WIKY, WSTO, WABX and WLFW.

RAMP caught up with Avery, who said, “I’m honored to be joining Max Media in Virginia Beach. They are a great example of how to do live and local radio right with entertaining and engaging content, promotions and events.”  Avery can be congratulated at savery@maxmediava.com.
