• iHeartMedia’s 100,000-watt Country blowtorch WEGX (Eagle 92.9)/Florence, SC has made the decision to bring in the Premiere-syndicated Bobby Bones Show. Now, the downside — that move means the departure of PD Ed Palmer and APD/MD Randy “Mudflap” Wilcox, also known and loved as Eagle’s longtime local morning duo Mudflap & Palmer. Palmer had been with the station for 18 years; Wilcox was a 14-year Eagle vet.

We have confirmed that Florence SVP of Programming Denis Davis has now absorbed programming duties for WEGX, in addition to his other programming responsibilities at Top 40 WJMX (103X), Urban WRZE (Swagga 94.1 & 105.9) and Urban AC WZTF (The Flo 102.9).

• For the past two weeks, as its sale from Tejas Broadcasting to Viva Media LLC was finalized, former Regional Mexican KQFX/Amarillo, TX has been stunting all over the musical map. At the same time, Viva Media has been conducting an ambitious online scavenger hunt that has garnered 9,000 new Facebook followers and another 3,000 signed up for exclusive e-mail clues. Yesterday, that stunting ended with the announcement of the birth of the new Wild 104.3, Amarillo’s Party Station, featuring “Party Hits of the ’90s through Now.”

While a new PD has yet to be named, Wild 104.3 will feature a bunch of locally known and loved personalities — Cruz, formerly of crosstown KATP will do afternoon drive, followed by Chino The Hustler (ex-KQIZ) will do 7-midnight. Later this month, The Hacker Morning Show debuts, featuring Tommy The Hacker, Angel Dee and Just Josh, who dominated mornings in the market for many years across the street at Townsquare Top 40 KXSS (96.9 Kiss FM). Newcomer Jessi rounds out the on-air lineup in middays. Wild 104.3 will also feature live mixes weekdays at noon, 5pm and 9pm. This Thursday, Wild 104.3 will kick off its biggest Scavenger Hunt yet with over $3,000 up for grabs.
