The Current Welcomes Jaffer For Nights

• Minnesota Public Radio Triple A KCMP (The Current)/Minneapolis-St. Paul announces the hire of Ayisha Jaffer to do evenings, beginning the week of April 18.

Jaffer is an experienced public radio veteran who joins The Current from Nashville Public Radio Triple A 91-ONE WNXP/Nashville, where she served as APD/midday host since last August. Before that she did afternoons at WYMS (88Nine Radio Milwaukee. Jaffer has also worked in music management in the U.S. and New Zealand with artists including Lorde, Cut Copy and Architecture in Helsinki. It was while  living in New Zealand when she got her radio start at 95BFM and Aotea FM. Outside of music, Jaffer has also worked as a park ranger in Alaska, and she enjoys working on wildlife conservation efforts, kayaking and playing music with her band Skux.

“As a true Midwesterner, joining the team at The Current feels like coming home,” Jaffer said. “I’m looking forward to being a voice on the air and a friend in your community.”

Jim McGuinn, PD of The Current, remarked, “We’re so excited to add Ayisha to the team at The Current. She brings together tremendous energy, knowledge, and a passion for the music, a fascinating background both in radio and around artists — and even bears! — and a real desire to connect listeners to the music and each other. She can’t wait to discover more of the music (and navigable waters) of Minnesota and become part of our community. We’re psyched for her to join us at The Current.”

Jaffer added, “Music is boundaryless, and I believe in using it to drive connections and amplify voices. I’m excited to get to know The Current’s listeners by sharing experiences, hearing yours and highlighting artists, creators, and dreamers alike. In this role, I hope to add to an already strong platform and pay it forward. Like Mr. Rogers says, let’s ‘make goodness attractive.'” [Photo credit: Nathan Taare]
