20 Years, Same Station…& That’s No Bull
• Today marks a very special milestone in the career of Danny Dwyer, MD/midday personality Alpha Media Country KUPL (98.7 The Bull)/Portland, OR — he celebrates 20 years with the station. His co-workers decided to surprise Dwyer a day early and presented him with a very cool platinum plaque commemorating this very special achievement. Pictured, (l-r) KUPL morning hosts Tony Russell and Jake Byron, Dwyer, KUPL PD MoJoe Roberts, morning host Jenn Hayes and Promotions Director Karli Dirksen.
Dwyer originally caught the radio bug in 1981 while in high school, working at the mighty 106.3 KMMT in Mammoth Lakes, CA. His first official radio gig was at the late, great KZLA/Los Angeles in 1992.
In a blog post, an emotional Dwyer shared his feelings, stating, in part, “April 13th, 1998, I walked thru the doors of the KOIN building, scared to death, wondering if I would fit in with the team that had been established and known as Lee & Susan and The Waking Crew. Little did I know at that moment a relationship with the PNW would last a lifetime.” He continued, “I have been blessed to see and do so much with KUPL. We have partied at Countryfest for 15+ years now; I’ve camped with 500 listeners at the Waking Crew Campout and we have won multiple awards, including the CMA and ACM Station of the Year, thanks to YOU, the greatest listeners on the planet.”
In conclusion, Dwyer said, “I’m truly blessed to the have opportunity to come to work every day and make you laugh and smile, so here’s to 20 years — and 20 more.” Your best wishes can be sent to Dwyer at Danny@987thebull.com.
