WALK… Don’t Text & Drive
• Connoisseur Media Hot AC WALK 97.5/Long Island is making a serious statement against the incredibly dangerous practice of texting and driving — for the entire day today, October 25, WALK is changing its slogan to “WALK 97.5, Don’t Text and Drive” in an effort to remind Long Islanders to be safe behind the wheel.
According the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), some 391,000 people were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2015. WALK 97.5 will use this intensive one-day campaign to urge Long Islanders to put their phones down while driving. “We know the law prohibits texting and driving, yet many Long Islanders can’t seem to help themselves,” said Tommy Conway, PD of WALK 97.5. “Our hope is that hearing the message from their favorite radio station may make people think twice, and hopefully change their behavior.”
Jim Condron, Market Manager of Connoisseur Media Long Island, added, “Radio has the power to reach so many people, so we need to make sure we do everything we can to help the community. If we can prevent one accident it will be worth it.” Echoing that sentiment, Connoisseur Media CEO Jeffrey D. Warshaw said, “Use an app that prevents messaging, put it in your glove compartment, or throw it in your back seat. Just don’t drive and text.”
In an effort to “drive home” that point, so to speak, WALK 97.5 will broadcast live from the Long Island Welcome Center (5100 Long Island Expressway in Dix Hills, Exit 51-52 Eastbound) today from 3-7pm. Staffers will hand out “Don’t Text and Drive” window clings to listeners who take the pledge to not text and drive!
