Breeze Blows Into Philly

UPDATED: After a weekend of stunting with Christmas music, iHeartMedia Rhythmic AC WISX (Real 106.1)/Philadelphia has flipped to Soft AC as 106.1 The Breeze, “Philly’s Relaxing Favorites,” effective at noon ET.

The new station, the latest convert to the company’s growing “Breeze” franchise, launched with 10,000 commercial-free songs in a row — a soothing blend of music from such artists as Chicago, Whitney Houston, Air SupplyAdele… you get the idea. The full talent line-up for 106.1 The Breeze will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

“This is a sound that was long abandoned by other stations,” said Nick Gnau, President of iHeartMedia Philadelphia Region. “Listeners can now hear relaxing Adult Contemporary genre music that hasn’t been played on the radio in years from their favorite artists.” Brian Check, VP of Programming for 106.1 The Breeze, said, “There is a huge appetite in Philly for a softer, relaxed sound, especially during the workday, and I’m happy to say we’re bringing ‘The Breeze’ to Philadelphia.”

• As a result of the flip, RAMP has confirmed that Real 106.1 morning hosts Chio Acosta and Shila Nathan have exited, along with midday personality Nicole Michalik and afternoon talent Johnny V.

Chio and Shila had been together at WISX since July 2017 — their second tour of duty — they previously did mornings together until early 2013 across the street on the late WRDW (Wired 96.5)/Philadelphia. Chio can be reached at 856-906-2904 or chiointhemorning@me.com. Reach Shila at 570-430-8573.

• Prior to her stint at Real 106.1, Michalik worked across the street at WIOQ (Q102) as “Nik The Web Chick” and she also did nights at WAEB (B104)/Allentown. She can be contacted at 267-977-8848, NicoleisNik@gmail.com and on social media @NicoleisNik.
