John Scott New PD of WQIK/Jacksonville
• iHeartMedia Country WQIK/Jacksonville hands the programming keys over to the man who probably knows the inner workings of the station better than any other human — MD/morning co-host John Scott, a 29-year station vet.
Scott reports to a visibly thrilled Gary “Geewiz” Christopher, SVP of Programming for iHeartMedia Jacksonville, who said, “We are thrilled to have John transition to Program Director for the No. 1 Country station in Jacksonville, 99.1WQIK. He understands our listeners and brings his passion and extensive knowledge of the market to this role and we know he will continue to contribute to our station’s ongoing success.” Nicky Sparrow, Market President for iHeartMedia Jacksonville, commented, “John is a great asset, not only to WQIK but the entire iHeart Jacksonville market. We are looking forward to John expanding his role as Program Director with his expertise in the Country format.”
During his three decades of service at WQIK, Scott has pretty much done it all — afternoons, middays and his current role as MD and co-host of the Robbie, John and Toni morning show. He began his career doing afternoons across the street at the former WJAX-AM & FM (now WAPE and WFXJ-AM).
“In my 29 years at this station, I have learned that WQIK is Jacksonville’s radio station and it truly belongs to our listeners,” said Scott. “I hope to be as good a steward of our station as the legends and Hall-of-Famers before me. To say it’s an honor is an understatement.” Your notes of congratulations can be sent to Scott at johnscott@wqik.com.
