Mays New Exec. Director, Vermont Broadcasters
• The Vermont Association of Broadcasters has named Wendy Mays its new Executive Director, effective Feb. 1. Mays has served as Promotions and Special Events Director at Hall Communications Radio Group in South Burlington, VT for the past 20 years. A graduate of UNLV, Mays got her first radio break in 1997 as an intern at KXTE/Las Vegas under then PD Mike Stern and soon became the station’s first-ever Public Service Director.
The following year, Mays returned to her home state of Vermont, hired by Hall Communications EVP/GM Dan Dubonnet as Promotions Director for Country WOKO, Classic Hits WKOL (Kool 105) and Adult Standards/Soft AC AM1230 WJOY/Burlington. Over the next two decades, she co-produced successful Country Music Festivals, Wedding Expos, charity golf tournaments and station birthday parties, including those for Alternative WBTZ (99.9 The Buzz) and Classic Rock WIZN/Burlington-Plattsburgh, NY, which were bought by Hall Communications in 2005.
After the passing of longtime VAB Executive Director Jim Condon in August 2018, Mays was instrumental in maintaining operations alongside fellow board members and Interim Director Eric Michaels. Mays commented, “I am honored to have earned this opportunity and excited to get to work and make my own positive impact on our industry!” Wally Caswell, President of the VAB, remarked, “We are thrilled to have Wendy come on board as the Vermont Association of Broadcasters Executive Director, only the third in our 65-year history. Her experience as a board member the past six years combined with her enthusiasm, ideas and goals promise a vibrant new era for the VAB and its membership.”
