Pacific Media Group Expands to O’ahu
• Hawai’i-owned multimedia company Pacific Media Group (PMG) has reached an agreement to acquire ‘Ohana Broadcast Company’s four Honolulu radio stations: Top 40 KDDB (102.7 Da Bomb), Rhythmic AC 94.7 KUMU, Hawaiian/Reggae KQMQ (93.1 Da Pa’ina) and Alternative KPOI (ALT 105.9).
This transaction brings the total number of radio stations that will be owned and operated by Pacific Media Group across the state to 20. The company already has six stations each on Maui and the Big Island of Hawai’i and four on Kaua’i. The O’ahu agreement follows Pacific Media Group’s expansion to Kaua’i, where the company purchased four stations that make up the KONG Radio Group from ‘Ohana Broadcast in October 2018.
“As a Hawai’i-owned and operated media company, I believe we are uniquely positioned to listen and understand the needs and wants of the communities, customers and employees we serve,” said PMG President & CEO Chuck Bergson. Terry Gillingham, RVP/GM for the Hawai’i Operations of ‘Ohana Broadcast Company said, “Our stations have enjoyed tremendous growth over the past few years under the ‘Ohana banner. Becoming part of PMG, a Hawai’i-based company, will help us realize the next level of growth and deepen our connection to the community. The team here is excited for this new development.”
Bergson added, “The team at ‘Ohana Broadcast has a great understanding of what both of our company cultures believe makes radio ‘magic’ — that is when it is ‘Live and Local.’ This core belief is what we work at every day in connecting with the community and developing long-term relationships.” The acquisition on O’ahu is set to close on Sept. 1, 2019.
