Prince Music To Stream Again
For the first time in 19 months, Prince’s most popular songs are set to make their return to most streaming services beginning Feb. 12 — which just happens to coincide with the night of the Grammy Awards. That’s the word from The New York Post, citing an unnamed and mysterious “music insider.” Prince had pulled his music from all streaming services in July of 2015 — nine months prior to his death on April 21, 2016. For the last nine months, his estate has been working on deals to return his music to the various streaming services. “The switch gets turned on for everybody during the Grammys,” the insider confirmed.
The Post says Prince’s Warner Music Group albums, which include hits like “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Purple Rain” and “When Doves Cry,” etc., will stream again on Apple, Spotify, Pandora, Google Play, Deezer and other outlets, the insider confirmed. These WMG songs are currently available only on Jay Z’s Tidal service. Prince’s estate has sued Tidal, claiming its use of Prince songs violates its 90-day agreement.
Deals for Prince’s music outside of his WMG contract, including thousands of unreleased songs presumed to be in his much-discussed “vault,” are still being negotiated, sources said. The Post is also reporting speculation that a Prince tribute during the Grammy Awards will include performances by Bruno Mars, Rihanna and The Weekend.
