WRNR Adds Boden, Ups Ondayko
• Empire Broadcasting System, Inc. Triple A 103.1 WRNR, proudly serving the Annapolis-Baltimore markets, made two major announcements regarding two well regarded market veterans: 1) Jeff Boden has been named President/General Manager of WRNR, and 2) Mike Ondayko has been elevated into the midday shift.
In a stirring staff memo, Empire Broadcasting President Steve Kingston said of Boden (left), “Jeff has an extensive background in station management and sales, spending many years working for ABC, Citadel and then Cumulus in positions ranging from Sales Manager, Director Of Sales and President/GM of WRQX/WMAL and WJZW. He was most recently President of Delmarva Broadcasting, which owned stations in Wilmington and other markets in the Delaware region. Much to our benefit, Delmarva was recently sold to Forever Broadcasting, which recently purchased WCEI and former sister station WINX-FM, both in Easton, allowing Jeff to follow his passion for audio by bringing his vast knowledge and experience of the business, his winning track record and winning strategies to WRNR-FM.”
No less awesome is the news that Ondayko (left) has been upped from nights/fill-in into the midday shift recently vacated by Carrie Neuman. PD Bob Waugh remarked, “It’s become hard to find, in today’s radio environment, someone like Mike Ondayko, who is already on staff, gets what we do and totally enjoys every moment of every show. He’s so well known and loved in the market. Mike’s a rarity.” Indeed, Ondayko was one third of the storied Kirk, Mark and Lopez morning show on Hearst Television’s WIYY (98Rock)/Baltimore, followed by two years in mornings at former Talk WHFS/Washington and afternoons at Times-Shamrock Classic Rock WZBA (100.7 The Bay)/Baltimore before joining WRNR in 2015.
Ondayko said, “I’ll always be grateful for Steve Kingston and especially Bob Waugh for giving me the chance to do what I love. Steve, Bob, Rob Timm and everyone at ‘RNR make up an incredible team.” He added, “It’s not often that you get an opportunity to be part of such a team at such an awesome indie station. WRNR plays a tremendous variety of really great music that I absolutely love and they have allowed me to be me. You can’t dream of a better gig.”
