Remembering Suzanne Goucher
• Suzanne Goucher, the longtime President & CEO of the Maine Association of Broadcasters has passed away. According to ABC affiliate WMTW/Portland, ME, Goucher had been hospitalized for an infection when she died unexpectedly.
New England radio veteran Jeff Pierce, currently Director of Broadcast and Media Partnerships Wreaths Across America, told RAMP, “As a member of the board and someone who has represented the organization on her behalf I can tell you the sheer volume of lives Suzanne has touched and other associations she has influenced.”
Goucher originally joined the MAB in 1994 as its part-time executive director and only staffer. Prior to joining the MAB, Goucher was the News Director at WFAU-AM & WKCG-FM/Augusta, ME.
WMTW President & GM David Able said Goucher played an important role for Maine broadcasters, noting that during her tenure, the MAB won several important legislative and regulatory battles for broadcasters. “That’s the hole that’s going to be felt,” said Able. “She had so much knowledge and so much caring and so much strength for what we brought out to our communities every day that she just worked to ensure that people were safe and got the information that they needed when they needed it.”
