Forecast: Sunny, 100% Chance of Gammons
• Portside Media Classic Hits WCSN (Sunny 105.7), “The Voice Of Paradise,” serving the scenic Orange Beach-Gulf Shores, AL region, announced a change in morning drive — after a 15-year run with the syndicated Rick & Bubba show — which ends this month — the station will debut a new live and local wake-up show, Mornings with Darrin, anchored by Darrin Gammons, starting Jan. 6.
Gammons is already a familiar voice to Sunny 105.7 listeners, having been with the station for the past five years in a part-time capacity. He brings a wealth of experience to this position, given his impressive resume, which includes the late WABB/Mobile, AL (where he fell in love with the Gulf Coast); KQKQ/Omaha, WRVQ/Richmond, KMVA/Phoenix, and more recently, a decade at KSTP (KS95) in his hometown of Minneapolis, rising to MD/middays — and where he dropped his longtime air name “Darrin Stone” in favor of his given last name, Gammons.
Joining Gammons as his co-host is Mary Williams, who most recently served as Station Manager for a group of locally-owned radio stations in Cedar Falls, IA and is now one of the owners of Sunny 105.7. The station remains local throughout the day, with Lisa Christian in middays and Kevin Keith in afternoon drive.
Commenting on Rick & Bubba’s enduring contributions to the station, Managing Partner Tracey Williams said, “We have great respect for Rick and Bubba’s incredible talent and legacy. However, we feel this is the perfect time to bring live and local broadcasting back to our morning show. While many broadcasting companies are downsizing and relying on syndication, we believe in serving our local communities in a more personal way, with local announcers. This new show reflects that commitment.”
