Hampton Roads Marks 50 Years Of Arlo
• Legendary rock jock Mike Arlo recently broke the mythical half-century barrier on the air in Hampton Roads, and celebrated that remarkable milestone with family, friends, and a slew of current and former colleagues Wednesday night at Three Notch’d Brewery in Virginia Beach.
“Arlo,” as he simply known by his legions of fans, has held down the midday slot on Saga Classic Rock WAFX (106.9 The Fox) since February 1996. He did his first airshift across the hall on sister WNOR (FM99) back in 1975 — yup, 50 years ago.
Carol Commander, GM of Saga’s Hampton Roads Media Group, commented, “The evening was nothing short of spectacular, brimming with heartfelt tributes, admiration, and well-deserved awards as we came together to celebrate the remarkable Mike Arlo and his 50-year milestone on our airwaves. Working alongside Mike has been an honor, and it was a privilege to recognize his immense contributions to our community, our listeners, and our team over the past five decades.”
Arlo remarked, “It was surreal seeing so many radio people from the last half-century all in one place. I’m grateful to my friends, family, and colleagues, both past a present, for celebrating with me. They say if you love what you do, you don’t work a day in your life… and I quit working 50 years ago.” Share your best wishes with Arlo at arlo@1069thefox.com.
