Condolences: Lou Christie

• Singer Lou Christie, best known for his 1966 No. 1 hit, “Lightnin’ Strikes,” died June 17, 2025, at the age of 82. Born Lugee Alfredo Giovanni Sacco on February 19, 1943, in Glenwillard, PA, Christie’s distinctive falsetto powered a string of iconic 1960s pop hits, most notably “Lightnin’ Strikes,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts on his 23rd birthday in 1966. Here is Christie performing the song on Hollywood A Go Go.

Christie’s other Top 40 hits, including “Two Faces Have I” (1963) and “I’m Gonna Make You Mine” (1969, No. 2, UK), showcased his unique blend of soulful melodies and emotional lyricism. With 26 singles and two albums charting in Billboard, Cashbox, and Record World, Lou’s music resonated with generations, earning him a devoted following and praise from peers like John Lennon, who cited him as an influence.

Christie’s family shared the news of his passing in a Facebook post that reads, “It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved brother, Lou Christie, who left us after a brief illness. He was cherished not only by his family and close friends but also by countless fans whose lives he touched with his kindness and generosity, artistic and musical talent, humor and spirit. His absence leaves a profound void in all our hearts. He will be greatly missed, always remembered, and forever loved.”

• And special thanks, as always, to “Radio’s Best Friend,” Art Vuolo, who immediately swung into action yesterday and dove into his extensive video archives to produce this terrific tribute to Lou Christie!
