Done Deal: Hoback Named MD At The Current

• We originally teased this news back in April — she started in June — and now it’s official — Minnesota Public Radio Triple A KCMP (The Current)/Minneapolis-St. Paul formally welcomes Amber Hoback aboard as Music Director. Over the summer it was also announced that longtime Current weekend host Mac Wilson was officially upped to evenings.

Hoback is a format veteran who arrived in the Twin Cities from Charlottesville, VA, where she most recent served as MD/midday talent at Stu-Comm Triple A WNRN. Hoback was previously MD/middays at ST Radio Triple A WTTS/Indianapolis, and PD/MD/morning personality at Wine Country Radio Triple A KRSH (The Krush 95.9)/Santa Rosa, CA.

As The Current’s new MD, Hoback will curate the station’s music library, review artist submissions, suggest new music options to The Current’s DJs and oversee known and loved programming like The Chart Show. She will also work alongside station leadership, including Managing Director David Safar and Program Director Lindsay Kimball. “We’re excited to have Amber join us at such a pivotal time,” said Safar. “Her skills and experience in helping audiences discover music that matters will be instrumental as we deepen our impact in service to the audience.”

“I’m delighted to be the new Music Director at The Current,” said Hoback. “It’s been a long-time aspirational career goal of mine to join this programming team, and it’s such a thriving music community in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota that the reality is even more fun than I previously imagined. It’s my honor to share music discoveries with the listeners of The Current, and I look forward to exploring this beautiful state and getting to know its people. I hope to meet you on the dance floor!” Learn more about Amber’s life and career background HERE. [Photo Credit: Bump Opera for MPR]
