Remembering Dan “The Man” Taylor

• Our thoughts are with PD Robynn Jaymes and the close-knit staff of Turner Media Group’s heritage Country WZBB (B99-9)/Stanleytown-Martinsville, VA, upon hearing of the passing of Dan “The Man” Taylor, WZBB’s beloved Music/Sports Director and afternoon drive talent, who died suddenly on Saturday, Sept. 13 after suffering a heart attack. He had just turned 54 two days prior.

Jaymes notes that this had been Taylor’s second stint at B — he was originally hired in February 1997 to do nights, then middays, and eventually, afternoons. After leaving in 2009, he made stops in WKML/Fayetteville, NC, and Statesville, NC, followed by a three-year run at KBIM/Roswell, NM, before returning to WZBB.

WZBB’s Facebook post accurately reflects the profound sense of loss the staff is experiencing: “This is the hardest Facebook post we have ever had to make. We lost one of the best. It was unexpected, sudden and we just can’t find the words to express how we feel and how much you are missed… Rest In Peace, Dan ‘The Man’ Taylor.”

Taylor, whose given name was Jeff Gibson, leaves behind his mother, a brother, and his beloved dog, Caroline. This Friday, the B99-9 air staff will come together to share their favorite memories and stories of Dan.
