Get Well Soon, Brad Lane!

• Sending our most sincere best wishes for a complete recovery to Brad Lane, Brand Manager of Audacy News-Talk WCCO/Minneapolis, who suffered what is frighteningly referred to as a “widowmaker” heart attack on Saturday, March 7. According to statistics, the survival rate for someone who is stricken outside of an actual hospital is 12%.

Fortunately, in Lane’s case, he was at a basketball game at the time, felt ill, someone called 911 and had him immediately transported to a local hospital, where as Brad’s wife Liv later posted to Instagram, “A team of nearly 20 medics worked on Brad, and Dr. Sara Murray (seen here with him) literally saved his life in surgery.”

Liv’s post continues, “The recovery will be slow, from months of cardiac rehab to a mind-boggling number of meds, as his heart function remains lower than they’d like. But they’re going to let him recover at home… Anyone who knows Brad knows the hardest part for him will be following the directive to just REST. When he returns to work, I’m counting on you wonderful WCCO colleagues to tackle him if you see him trying to zip from office to office or bounce up a flight of stairs. We are so grateful for everyone who played a part in keeping Brad here, and for all the love and prayers.”

WCCO host Jason DeRusha shared the news of Lane’s medical emergency on-air, while also describing his own harrowing near-death experience, and listeners called in with theirs. DeRusha later posted the segment to YouTube bearing the chilling title, “Our Boss Had A Heart Attack.”
