Beasley Vet Mac Edwards Announces Retirement

• Beasley Media Group announced that Mac Edwards, VP/Market Manager of the company’s Charlotte radio cluster, will step down from his role and into retirement, effective Sept. 4, following an extraordinary 35-year career with the company.

A native of Belmont, NC, Edwards started his Beasley career in 1991 as an on-air talent and Program Director at WKML/Fayetteville, quickly rising through the ranks, becoming GM of WFLB-FM and WAZZ-AM/Fayetteville in 1996. He went on to serve as VP of Operations for the Fayetteville market before being elevated to VP/Market Manager in 2007.

In 2016, Edwards accepted a promotion to oversee Beasley’s newly acquired Detroit radio cluster, including legendary stations WRIF, WCSX, and WMGC, and later adding WDMK and Detroit Praise Network. He relocated to Charlotte in 2022, where he currently oversees the company’s six-station cluster — WKQC (K104.7), WPEG (Power 98), WSOC (Country 103.7), WBAV (V101.9), WNKS (Kiss 95.1), and PLAYA 94.7.

“Thirty-five years ago, I had the privilege of recruiting Mac Edwards to join Beasley Media Group, and it remains one of the best decisions we’ve ever made,” said Chief Operating Officer Brian Beasley. “Throughout his remarkable career, Mac has been an outstanding leader, trusted colleague and tremendous ambassador for our company. His passion for radio, commitment to excellence, and dedication to our teams and the communities we serve have made a lasting impact across every market he has led. We are incredibly grateful for Mac’s many contributions and wish him continued happiness and success in this well-deserved next chapter.”

“Beasley Media Group has been such an important part of my life and career journey,” said Edwards. “I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some incredibly talented people, serving amazing communities, and helping grow iconic radio brands across the country. I’m thankful to the Beasley family, especially Brian Beasley, for bringing me to the company, our leadership team, our colleagues, and our partners for the opportunities, friendships, and memories over the past three decades.”

Edwards added, “While this departure is bittersweet, I’m looking forward to taking a moment to relax and spend time with my two very active grandsons, with a granddaughter on the way, before embracing new adventures ahead. I am deeply grateful to my amazing wife Angela and our three wonderful daughters for their constant encouragement, unwavering belief, and the strength they’ve provided throughout this amazing ride. Their support has meant everything to me.”

Additional details regarding leadership plans for the Charlotte market will be announced in the near future.
