Free Agent Alert: Kenny Smoov

• After 23 years with Cumulus, the past 21 years in Nashville, Kenny Smoov has exited his dual roles as corporate VP of Urban Formats and PD/midday talent at Urban AC WQQK (92Q)/Nashville.

Special guest visitors during Smoov’s last show included Freddie O’Connell, 10th Mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Karen Johnson, Register of Deeds for Nashville-Davidson County, and Davidson County Clerk Sharon W. Hurt, along with a studio full of emotional friends and colleagues. Smoove later addressed his departure during a Facebook Live session.

Smoove joined Cumulus in 2003 and was elevated to his VP position in June 2019. His earlier programming stops include New Orleans, Greensboro, and Myrtle Beach, SC. A Desert Storm veteran, Smoov has been honored for his work as The Tennessean‘s “2017 Favorite Radio Personality of the Year,” was recognized as a Billboard Radio Personality of the Year (Small Market), and he has received an NAACP Image Award, among other honors.

Smoov’s departure follows last month’s exit of Sissy Brown and Khristal “Witta Eye” Majors of The 615 Wakeup during that large round of corporate downsizing.
