Remembering Shane Finch
• Many in our industry were shocked and saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Shane Finch, who died of a heart attack on Saturday morning, May 20. He would have turned 60 years old on June 14.
Finch was currently Director of Sales at Ocala, FL-based Broadcasters General Store. He previously worked for Enco Systems in Novi, MI and spent many years with Joe Knapp‘s MusicMaster. Finch, an Iowa native, was one of many veterans of Saga Classic Hits 93.3 KIOA/Des Moines, IA who recently returned for a big reunion in honor of the station’s 75th anniversary, which was spotlighted in the April 14 issue of RAMP. Finch was listed as a KIOA jock from 1987-91.
“Radio’s Best Friend,” Art Vuolo, was a close friend of Finch for many years, and he told us, “As many know, Shane was a fixture at seemingly every radio conference. I last saw him in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. He was at R&R conventions, WWRS, The Conclave, CRS, Morning Show Boot Camp, you name it — Shane was there! Everyone loved him.”
Finch, an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ocala (FL), is survived by his wife, Jana, three daughters, Megan, Llanna and Maddie, and three grandchildren. Tragically, a 60th birthday celebration for Finch was scheduled for June 17. Instead, a Celebration of Life is being planned for sometime in June.
As we speak, Finch’s Facebook page is filling up with messages of support, and we are told that you may send condolences to his his e-mail address: shanefinch5@yahoo.com. We will also share his family’s home address upon request.
