WTOP’s Joel Oxley Announces Retirement

Calling the move “100% my decision,” Oxley made his big announcement to the staff on Wednesday, noting, “Because we are doing well, in such a solid position, and because the best time to make changes is when you are doing well, and because I’m flippin’ 65, I’ve decided that it’s time for me to hang up my cleats and retire and move on to the next chapter in my life.”
Oxley added, “I’ve been thinking about this for awhile and I look back and I say ‘What has kept me here so long. I’m looking at it. It’s the people… I feel incredibly blessed to have worked with all of you and all of the other great people over the years that I’ve been able to work with.” Watch Oxley’s announcement HERE.
To say Oxley is leaving WTOP in solid shape would be an understatement — WTOP has been radio’s top revenue-generating station for 13 of the past 14 years, generating $66.3 million in revenue in 2024. We understand a formal announcement will be released later today.
