Stewart On The Loose
The subtle cutbacks continue inside the ranks of CBS Radio as the merger with Entercom grows ever closer — the latest departure is Dave Stewart, who had been faithfully manning the live overnight show on Classic Hits WCBS-FM/New York since December 2012. Stewart is probably best known for his two decades of service across the street at Cumulus Hot AC WPLJ as well as his long-running syndicated show, RetroStars.
“Well, that was a blast,” Stewart said in a Facebook post. “After four and a half years, my time at CBS-FM has ended. Having been even small part of that station’s huge legacy is a feeling I can’t describe.” He added, “Our colleague, Ken Foote, recently published a story about CBS-FM’s history for the station’s 45th anniversary. To see my name on a list of personalities that includes Harry Harrison, Ron Lundy, Dan Ingram, Cousin Brucie, Joe McCoy and Bob Shannon, is something I only dreamed of as a baby DJ. I can’t fully wrap my head around the reality of it.”
Stewart continued, “Thanks to Jim Ryan for choosing me when live overnights returned to CBS-FM and for always having my back. The same goes for Scott Shannon, who’s been in my corner at both CBS-FM as well as our last station, WPLJ.” As Stewart related to RAMP, “Scott asked me to stay into the first part of his show this morning to give me a warm sendoff.” Afterwards, the crew posed for this awesome farewell photo: (l-r): Traffic Anchor Sue Aller, co-host Patty Steele, Stewart and Scott Shannon. In conclusion, Stewart assured us, “For now, I get to work on some projects that need my TLC (including planning his upcoming wedding), and things were left on excellent terms with CBS-FM. I’m happy.” Stewart’s friends can easily reach him at StewartDave@aol.com.
