Taylor Donates $100K To Lopez-Galvan Fund

UPDATED: A GoFundMe page established to benefit the family of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, the Kansas City radio host and mother of two who was killed in this week’s mass shooting at the end of the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory parade, caught the attention of Taylor Swift, who early Friday morning donated $100,000 to the fund.

The Elizabeth Lopez-Galvan Memorial page was set up Thursday afternoon, with a stated goal of raising $75,000 to help the family of the 44-year-old shooting victim. A message on the page states, in part, “Lisa was celebrating the Chiefs Super Bowl Victory parade when senselessly killed. She is survived by two children and her husband of 22 years. She was an amazing mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to so many. We ask that you continue to keep her family in your prayers as we grieve the loss of her life. This fund will help provide vital financial support to her family as they process this unthinkable tragedy. Any amount is appreciated.”

As first reported by Variety, approximately 1,300 people had made donations when Swift, currently on tour in Australia, pushed the total beyond that goal in the early hours of Friday morning, first making a donation of $50,000, followed eight minutes later by a second $50K donation, both bearing this message: “Sending my deepest sympathies and condolences in the wake of your devastating loss. With love, Taylor Swift.” Swift’s rep confirmed to Variety that the donations were legit. As of late Sunday, the fund has crossed the $350,000 mark and was still climbing. [Photo from Facebook]

• In a related story, Taylor’s boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelsey has donated $100,000 to a GoFundMe account established to benefit the Reyes family, whose two daughters were among those injured in the shooting. Like Taylor’s donation to the Lopez-Galvan fund, Kelsey’s charity, 87 and Running, made two separate $50,000 donations to the fund, which had set an initial goal of $100,000. By yesterday the fund has grown to nearly $200,000. TMZ has more details.
