Greetings From Slowjamastan!

• Never a dull moment in the life of our longtime friend, R Dub!, the creator and host of the Benztown-syndicated Sunday Night Slow Jams, who is also known for his extensive and exotic travels to countries all over the world.

Flush with all this international adrenaline pumping through his system, Dub! decided to forge his own “micronation,” created in his image. Thus was established the “Republic of Slowjamastan,” not-so-conveniently located on an 11.07-acre plot of land that R Dub! — now the self-proclaimed “Sultan of Slowjamastan” — owns in the California desert, some 14 miles southwest of the Salton Sea — soon to be renamed the “Sultan Sea” (TM pending) near Ocotillo Wells in Imperial County, CA. No, seriously.

RAMP caught up with the globetrotting “Sultan,” who told us, “My mission over the last decade has been to see every country in the world — all 193 of them. I’m currently at the five-yard line with only 18 more nations to go, and I should finish by the end of this year. But then what? What do I do after I’ve seen every nation in the world? Basically, I ran out of countries, so I decided to make my own!”

Last Sunday, Feb. 6, Dub! hosted a gala “Meet the Sultan” event at Slowjamastan’s lovely Independence Square, and welcomed the public, including “nearby” business owners and radio friends from far and wide, to his new micronation — the first official territory of “The United Territories of the Sovereign Nation of The People’s Republic of Slowjamastan”… or something.

In his magnificent welcome speech, the most exalted Sultan said, “We are very thankful and appreciative of the government of Imperial County and our allies in California and The United States and most of all are just joyous for the people of Slowjamastan that now have land of their own. We will begin building immediately. Fences, signs, watchtower, perhaps a hot dog stand and a bowling alley… we have big plans. I have no further comment.”
