Happy 50th, Jim Kerr & New York City!

• We join the rest of our industry in paying tribute to the one and only Jim Kerr, host of the Jim Kerr Rock and Roll Morning Show alongside Shelli Sonstein on iHeartMedia Classic Rock WAXQ (Q104.3)/New York, who on Monday, March 18 will mark an amazing broadcast milestone — 50 years on New York radio! Kerr holds the distinction of once being the youngest — and now the longest running — morning radio host in New York market history!

Kerr began his New York morning radio oddyessy at WPLJ on March 18, 1974, at the tender age of 21. In all he’s done mornings at six New York stations, with the last 22 years at WAXQ.

To commemorate this incredible half-century radio achievement, Q104.3 has planned an entire week of special events, starting Saturday, when Kerr hosts the 20th Annual Jim Kerr Irish Breakfast live broadcast from 9am-noon at Connolly’s Pub on 47th Street in New York.

On Monday, March 18, Kerr’s 50th anniversary, New York Mayor Eric Adams will join Jim live in-studio at 7:30am bearing a special proclamation celebrating the official 50th anniversary of Jim Kerr’s career in New York.

Tuesday, March 19: Radio legends from all eras of Jim’s career will join him live on the air, including fellow icon Howard Stern, who will join Jim for a live conversation simulcast on Q104.3 and SiriusXM.

And on Friday, March 22, Kerr wraps up his anniversary week with a live broadcast from atop the Empire State Building from 5-10am with a special performance from Gavin Rossdale of BUSH, and conversations with Billy Joel, Jon Bon Jovi and New York Jets’ linebacker C.J. Mosley.

“This milestone is impossible to comprehend,” said Eric Wellman, Program Director of Q104.3. “Fifty years of mornings in the No. 1 market is a record that will never be touched. It makes my job so much easier knowing I have a legend like Jim Kerr to pencil into the lineup every single day. I’m humbled that he calls me ‘boss,’ when I know that I really work for him. Congratulations, Jim… here’s to the next 50!”
