WOW! Sebastian Named PD of KOAI/Phoenix
• Legendary programmer John Sebastian has joined Riviera Broadcasting as Program Director/Consultant of Classic Hits KOAI (the station now formerly known as 95.1/94.9 The Oasis)/Phoenix.
Sebastian’s mission — and he has chosen to accept it — will be to evolve KOAI into the inaugural affiliate of his unique long-in-the-works music format, The WOW Factor, which has been specially formulated to appeal to the under-served musical tastes of Baby Boomers and 45+ Gen X’ers.
Sebastian’s extensive major market programming career has taken him to Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Washington, D.C., Boston, Seattle and Phoenix, creating historic success stories in multiple formats and legendary stations, including Top 40 KDWB/Minneapolis, AOR/Rock WCOZ/Boston, Smooth Jazz KTWV/Los Angeles, Classic Rock KSLX/Phoenix and Country WSM/Nashville. Sebastian also arrives equipped with some serious Phoenix radio heritage, having previously programmed KUPD, KSLX and KDKB.
As Sebastian stated, “KOAI will be the first of many WOW Factor stations across America with an eclectic mix of music researched and curated for Baby Boomers.” He then handed the mic to Michael Cutchall, CEO of Riviera Broadcasting, who commented, “John has been one of the most innovative programmers in the history of radio.
