Awards, Honors & Accolades
• We want to offer our most sincere congratulations to Dean Myers and Roger Beaty, stars of the Dean & Rog morning show on Cox Media Group Classic Rock KGLK (The Eagle 106.9/107.5)/Houston, who last Friday celebrated 20 years as a team in the Houston market. The guys arrived in the home of the Astros in 1997 after warm-up stops in Flint, MI, Salt Lake City, Phoenix and Denver. “Looking around the country, there are only a handful of major market morning shows with a 20-year track record in the same city,” said What Dean and Rog have accomplished today is quite remarkable,” said CMG Houston VP/Market Manager Mark Krieschen. “The continued success of the show in morning drive-time is something you just don’t see anymore. We’re proud to have these guys on our team!”
To commemorate this special two-decade milestone, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner proclaimed Friday, April 28, 2017 as “Dean & Rog Day” in Houston, and the proclamation was presented to Dean & Rog during Friday’s special anniversary show, which also featured a live studio audience, special guests, games and local Classic Rock cover band The Slags performing live.
• Radio listeners can sometimes be a fickle bunch… as can folks who respond to annual readers’ polls in local publications. Which is why it’s so gratifying to see my longtime friend (and former Gavin Report colleague) Eva Matteson and her wake-up partner Blake Hayes of Saga Hot AC WMGX (Coast 93.1)/Portland, ME just chalk up their third consecutive win as “Best TV/Radio Personality” as voted on my the obviously astute and attractive readers of the Portland Phoenix, which just published its 2017 “100 Best Of” Issue.
“How cool is this?!” an elated Ms. Matteson tells RAMP. “People continue to find us amusing. The honor is extra special this year because the category has been expanded to include both radio and TV personalities.” When asked for the secret to their ongoing success, Matteson said, “We laugh as much as our listeners — and I read somewhere laughter is the key to a healthy life. ‘Healthy Radio’ — yep, that’s Blake & Eva!”
