WRKO Reunion Fast Approaching
Just a reminder that the legendary WRKO/Boston is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with a big reunion weekend, June 2-4. Former WRKO PD Mel Phillips graciously shared some of the notable names who have already RSVP’d — Erica Farber, Charlie Van Dyke, Al Gates, Joel Cash, Arnie “Woo Woo” Ginsburg, Chuck Knapp, JJ Jeffrey, JJ Jordan, Arthur Katz, Chip Hobart, Perry Ury, Jack Hobbs, Joan Greenberg, Art Vuolo, Jordan Rich, Ron Hurst, Dave Thomson, Buzz Brindle, Jim Elliott, Steve Feldman, Phil Zachary and a bunch more, including current WRKO staff members.
The fun begins on Friday night, June 2 with the 50th Anniversary from 6-10pm in the Charles Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza in Newton. Following the dinner, Jordan Rich (left) will emcee the festivities, and a video of the event will be shot by “Radio’s Best Friend” Art Vuolo for inclusion in the Radio Hall Of Fame. The following evening, from 7-11pm, a very special event will take place — a tribute the glory days of WRKO, featuring five members of WRKO’s original “Now Crowd” playing hits from the Top 100 of 1967, using the original WRKO jingles! A live broadcast will air on WRKO and stream live via Backbone Networks, produced by George Capalbo Jr.
The deadline to RSVP and send in your $75 check is this Thursday, May 18. Sorry, but no walk-ups will be allowed to the Charles Ballroom. For more info, contact Mel Phillips at mel@melphillips.org.
