Buffalo The New Home Of ‘US Country’
• After a year as Conservative Talk as “The Patriot,” Buddy Shula‘s Radio One Buffalo has formally flipped 1230 WUSW (and two FM translators) to Classic Country as “US Country — Buffalo’s Country Favorites,” serving Buffalo, Western New York, and Southern Ontario with “Retro Hot Country” from the ’80s, ’90s & early ’00s with a playlist featuring Garth Brooks, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, Shania Twain, Brooks & Dunn, Reba, Dolly, etc.
“US Country is built around a clear promise: great Country music and a station that feels connected to the people who listen,” said Buddy Shula, Owner of Radio One Buffalo. “We’re bringing Buffalo Country artists and songs that they have been craving, and that you can’t find anywhere else on the radio, locally.”
US Country will also feature several well-known local Country radio pros, including Shula, Wendy Lynn, Greg Ireland and Aaron James. And coming in December — market veteran Liz Mantel will join US Country for mornings. Mantel most recently did mornings over on former Audacy Country WLKK (107.7 The Wolf), and earlier co-hosted mornings for several years on Townsquare Country WYRK.
Shula continued, In Buffalo, WYRK is the heritage Country station. I was on the air at WYRK earlier in my career, and it’s where I found my love for Country music. However, the artists and songs we were playing back then cannot be heard anymore… Until now. These artists are still relevant and more important to Country music than ever.”
Veteran Country radio programmer Ken Johnson has joined the US Country team as a special advisor. Johnson was the first Program Director of WYRK from 1982 to1997. Following a stint as Program Director of WXTU/Philadelphia, Johnson served as a Program Director and consultant to multiple Country music channels at XM Satellite Radio from 2001-2009.
