Remembering Mark Robertson

Making his passing even more tragic, Robertson retired last July after nearly five decades on the air. Shortly thereafter, he was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer, facing his illness with the same quiet strength and grace that defined his life.
The River shared the sad news of Robertson’s passing in a Facebook post that reads, in part, “A beloved voice of 98.7 The River for 48 years, Mark was a constant champion for those in need and a trusted source of information for our community. He advocated for and rescued countless animals. He started our ‘Christmas Wish’ program, bringing comfort and joy to families facing cancer during the holidays. He greeted you in the morning and tested you with his tough trivia. Mark showed up for people, again and again, in ways that truly mattered. He was the real deal. A true professional and master of his craft.”
The post continues, “His impact on this station, and on Savannah and Bluffton, is impossible to measure. Generations grew up listening to him. Many of us had the privilege of working alongside him, learning from him, and calling him a friend. We will miss him so very much. Thank you for everything, we love you, Mark.”
“We are all heartbroken about Mark’s passing,” said Bob Neumann, Area SVP of Programming, iHeartMedia South Carolina-Georgia. “Mark was a huge animal advocate and made Christmas’ just a little bit better for sick kids each year with his ‘Christmas Wish’ initiative. I had the pleasure of working with him for over 9 years.”
Robertson’s formal obituary is posted HERE.
