Happy World College Radio Day!

• Montclair State University’s mighty WMSC will be joining nearly 600 radio stations in 38 countries for the 10th annual World College Radio Day tomorrow, October 2. WMSC is an official sponsor of the worldwide event alongside RCS Sound Software, Spinitron, SoundExchange and many others. This year’s theme is “Global Solidarity Rocks,” and WMSC will host a 30-hour special programming hybrid marathon featuring some of the best shows and on-air talent, exclusive interviews, musical performances, intercollegiate collaborations and much more. WMSC was also selected to participate in the 24-hour World College Radio Day Marathon broadcast featuring 24 stations across five continents, airing on Live365.

Tara Cicchetti will officially kick off the festivities today at 7pm to celebrate the launch of the 24-hour World College Radio Day broadcast in New Zealand. She’ll be joined by WCRD 2020‘s official ambassador Bret Michaels and fellow broadcaster, American pro wrestler Brimstone, for an exclusive interview.

Highlights from the marathon include a live launch at midnight to celebrate the start of WCRD in the U.S.; a special two-hour edition of The Morning Buzz; Rocky’s (Virtual) Dance Party; two hours of special interviews and music performances by artists such as Shape of Water, Declan McKenna, Steeven Chouinard of Le Couleur, Michael McCartney, Starwolf, and Milo Gore;, a Spanish-language simulcast produced by WMSC; a special edition of Tom Kaminski‘s Back to the Future featuring Bob Williams; the premiere of a documentary telling the story of the ten years of World College Radio Day; and a one-hour special featuring WMSC’s interview with Bret Michaels, Randy Blythe of Lamb of God and David Ellefson of Megadeth.

“College radio students have demonstrated impressive adaptability and resilience during these difficult times,” says Anabella Poland (left), GM of WMSC-FM & President of College Radio Day. “It’s this determination to carry on and not let the virus define their time in college radio that has played a significant role in boosting their confidence, versatility and creativity.”

Never to let any obstacle deter them from their mission of making the most of college radio, WMSC’s student management team produced a glorious, Hamilton-inspired DIY video greeting — produced and directed by Joshua Noel Tirado and edited by Celine Da Silva — to spread hope and cheer to their peers around the world during these interesting times.
