Gresh, McBroom On The Move

• The City of Providence anxiously awaits the return of prodigal son/sports guru Andy Gresh to the station where it all started — Cumulus News-Talk WPRO-AM/Providence, where The Gresh Show debuts next Monday, April 17 and runs from 6-9pm weeknights. Gresh will have three hours a night to talk Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins, as well as the local sports scene at Providence College, University of Rhode Island, Brown and Bryant.

Gresh started his career at WPRO-AM in 1997, working behind the scenes until October of that year, when he was named morning co-host on former Sports sibling WSKO (790 The Score). Ten years later, Gresh left the nest for New York City, working at WFAN and ESPN Radio. In 2009 he joined the original staff of Mad Dog Radio at SiriusXM. In 2010 Gresh moved home to New England, and spent five years at WBZ-FM (98.5 The Sports Hub)/Boston, teamed up with Providence radio partner Scott Zolak in middays. Gresh most recently co-hosted afternoon drive at WTIC-AM/Hartford.

WPRO PD Tony Mascaro said, “This market has waited almost 10 years to bring back local sports to the airwaves. I’m so thrilled to welcome Andy home. The combination of our heritage talk team and The Gresh Show with sports at night and his unique style will give Rhode Islanders that perfect mix of local talk and local sports.” Gresh added, “I’m excited to come back to where it all started for me 20 years ago. It’s time to turn nights on WPRO on its ear and let Rhode Island take back its sports talk.”

• Cox Media Group (CMG) Tampa Radio has named Danielle McBroom as the permanent host of Magic Mornings with Danielle on WWRM (Magic 94-9). McBroom is already fully up to speed with the inner workings of the building, as she spent the past decade across the hall on the air at sister WSUN (97X). “We are so excited to have Danielle join our Magic team,” said John Larson, Director of Branding and Programming for WWRM, Classic Hits WXGL (107.3 The Eagle) and Soft AC WDUV. “Her experience, creativity, social media expertise and infectious attitude bring a fresh, new sound to a huge brand like Magic.” No less thrilled about this new morning move is McBroom, who remarked, “I am so excited to join the Magic team and stay with my Cox Media Group Tampa family. CMG is a company that really believes in promoting from within and I’m thrilled to have this opportunity on this incredibly powerful and successful radio station, with so much heritage in the market.”

You may recall that Magic’s previous 16-year morning show, married morning duo Chadd & Kristi Thomas left late last year and crossed the street to Beasley’s new AC outlet, WPBB (B98.7).
