‘Hang A Right On Bob Seger Blvd.’
• Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Beasley Classic Rock WCSX/Detroit is teaming up with the City of Ann Arbor, MI and the Ann Arbor School Board in an effort to have a street named in honor of Detroit rock legend Bob Seger in front of his former high school in Ann Arbor. Jim O’Brien, host of the Big Jim’s House morning show has been working with the City of Ann Arbor and the School Board to find a suitable stretch of road on the grounds of Pioneer High School (formerly Ann Arbor High) near the corner of Main Street.
“Bob Seger is part of my life,” said O’Brien. “The first song at my wedding reception was ‘Real Love’ by Seger, and my favorite road trip song ever is ‘Roll Me Away.’ Bob Seger is everything good about Detroit — hard working, passionate and genuine. When we found this stretch of road in Ann Arbor at his high school, it just made sense to make ‘Bob Seger Boulevard’ a reality. And it’s connected to ‘Main Street!'”
Co-host Erin Vermeulen added, “Bob Seger, to me, represents everything our great state is about. I meet WCSX listeners all the time who share their memories and stories with me about Seger songs and concerts and how his music influenced their lives. What better way to pay tribute to such an amazing homegrown talent, than with his own street in the town where he grew up. This is a perfect opportunity to showcase one of the greatest storytellers of our time.”
Ryan Logan, Producer of Big Jim’s House, remarked, “Being younger, Seger was one of the first artists I was introduced to growing up in the ’90s. When I lived in Arizona and made those long drives back to Michigan, there was nothing better than putting a Seger album on and cruisin.’ It only makes sense to name a street after the greatest road trip artist around.” The proposed street name change will soon be going before the board for a vote, and WCSX wants to make sure it passes!
