The Wright Time To Retire
• Vox AM FM Digital announced that Kurt Wright, veteran Vermont politician and the popular host of The Morning Drive on News-Talk WVMT/Burlington, VT, will retire, effective May 30 after a six-year run with the station. Listen to Wright’s heartfelt on-air announcement HERE.
Wright joined WVMT in 2019 when the station was acquired from Sisson Broadcasting. Prior to his transition into radio, Wright established himself as a significant figure in Vermont politics, serving multiple terms as a Burlington City Councilor and held a seat in the Vermont House of Representatives. Wright was also the Republican nominee for Mayor of Burlington on multiple occasions.
“Kurt brought the same thoughtfulness and dedication to his radio career that characterized his years in public service,” said Kwame Dankwa, Program Director of WVMT and sister WXXX (95 Triple X). “His ability to discuss complex issues fairly while maintaining the warmth and accessibility that defines local radio has set a standard for broadcasting excellence in our community.”
Wright’s final broadcast will be Friday, May 30, with special guests and tributes planned throughout his final week. “Kurt’s voice has become part of the morning routine for so many Vermonters,” added Ken Barlow, COO of Vox AM FM Digital. “While we will miss his presence behind the microphone, his impact on Vermont broadcasting and our community will endure.”
Vox AM FM Digital will announce plans for the future of The Morning Drive in the coming weeks.
