Open Your Prize — To Entertain & Give Back
• Nice to hear from veteran Boston morning radio personality Rich Shertenlieb, who announced the launch of the Open Your Prize network, which debuts this week with two original shows — and armed with a vitally important mission to raise money for Boston’s world-renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), which Rich credits for saving the life of his wife. “Twelve years ago, my wife Mary was diagnosed with leukemia, and today she’s battling the disease for the fourth time,” Shertenlieb says. “I’m confident that Mary is alive today because of the miracle workers at DFCI. I don’t know how you pay someone back for saving the life of someone you love, but this is how I’ll try.”
Commenting on the launch of Open Your Prize, Shertenlieb said, “I wanted to create a network that’s as curious as it is entertaining… something that’s smart, funny, and doesn’t talk down to anyone. It just says, ‘Hey, the world is weird — let’s explore it together.'”
To that end, Open Your Prize‘s two new original shows are Hey Rich Hey, and Nonsense 911. Hey Rich Hey features celebrity interviews, trending news, and a healthy dose of whatever else Rich finds funny, fascinating, or completely absurd. Nonsense 911 explores Rich’s deep obsession with the most ridiculous, petty, and downright bizarre 911 calls ever made. From calls about kids who refuse to go to summer camp, to neighbors who won’t flush their toilet, Rich plays the actual call audio from his personal collection and breaks down each scenario with his signature mix of curiosity and satirical wit.
Each video ends with a QR code enabling you to donate to the Pan-Mass Challenge bike ride on August 2 & 3, Dana Farber’s largest fundraiser that Shertenlieb will be participating in. “The people at Dana-Farber Cancer Center saved my wife’s life, are attempting to save it again, so this is the only way I know how to give back,” he tells RAMP.
