Remembering Bob Jamieson

After graduating from Babson College — and much to his father’s disappointment, taking his first job counting records at a warehouse in Queens — Jamieson went on to forge a remarkable career in the music industry. His journey began at Columbia Records in 1968 and continued at Epic Records, CBS Records, PolyGram Records, and BMG, ultimately rising to Chairman of RCA Records.
The news of Jamieson’s passing was shared with us by industry veteran Jim Hampton, who said, “Bob was a great friend of mine. We met when I was the DJ/music Director of WJBK/Detroit, and Bob was working with Columbia Records. We were roommates for a while in the late ’60s. Bob was truly one of the most beautiful people. Unlike a lot of people in the music industry, he was a total straight-shooter and people loved him.”
Bob Jamieson is survived by his beloved wife, Judy, his three children — Cindy, David, and Byron — and nine grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the American Stroke Association at stroke.org. A Celebration Of Life will be planned, with details TBD.
