KUBE’s Frequency Bequeathed To KJR

• iHeartMedia Seattle has ended the mystery over what would become of the 93.3 frequency recently vacated by heritage Rhythmic KUBE — after several weeks of simulcasting Top 40 sister KBKS (HITS 106.1), the company has formally launched Sports Radio 93.3 KJR-FM, “Seattle’s Sports Leader,” simulcasting on Sports-Talk sister 950 KJR-AM.

Those KJR-FM call letters had been attached to Classic Hits sister 95.7 The Jet, which has reportedly adopted the more Jet-like KJEB-FM calls.

“By moving the legendary KJR brand to the FM band, we’re going to be able to grow the next generation of Seattle Sports fans,” said Mark Glynn, Market President for iHeartMedia Seattle. “With the combination of Sports Radio 93.3 KJR FM, Sports Radio 950 KJR AM and the iHeartRadio app, we enhance our sports platform and become the #1 destination for sports and currently the only FM sports platform in Seattle.”

Sports Radio 93.3 KJR FM will feature heritage talent such as Dave “Softy” Mahler, Ian Furness, Jason Puckett, Jim Moore, Chuck Powell and former Seattle Mariner Bucky Jacobsen. The station will remain the play-by-play rights holder for the University of Washington Huskies, Seattle Kraken, and Seattle Sounders.

Here is the new 93.3 KJR-FM daily line-up: Chuck & Bucky in the Morning (6-10am); Jason Puckett & Jim Moore (10am-1pm); Ian Furness (1-3pm); Dave “Softy” Mahler & Dick Fain (3-6pm).

• Ironically, the KJR move happened on the same day that the Seattle Seahawks announced that longtime quarterback Russell Wilson had been traded to the Denver Broncos… The new KJR-FM & AM now goes head-to-head with Bonneville Sports-Talk rival KIRO-AM 710, which this week rebranded as Seattle Sports.
